Abbey Wharf, Reading

Located in a unique riverside location in central Reading, Abbey Wharf has been transformed throughout by Spratley & Partners. New entrance canopy, rebranded signage and re-colouring of the existing brickwork and stone panels has given the dated façade an improved sense of presence. The under-utilised external terrace has been rejuvenated with outdoor furniture, planting, table tennis and work out area.

Internally there was significant refurbishment to the common parts and vacant offices. The reception area was increased to create a flexible reception, lounge, communal working area and coffee station; including specification of all new furniture and interiors.

The refurbished floor plates boast a variety of office space designs, with the exposed services and concrete soffit of the ground floor units, that open onto business lounges with crittall style doors and metal ceiling grid, to the contrasting first floor with its back lit black mesh panels.

Common areas were upgraded throughout; the redesigned staircase features a mesh balustrade, signage and lighting. New wayfinding and feature lighting revitalised common areas, with particular success in lifting dark basement areas. The lower ground floor has been improved with the addition of cycle facilities, showers and lockers.
