The brief called for the reconfiguration of an existing faculty building into a fun and vibrant nursery school for children of staff and students at Oxford University.
The Victorian, Arts & Crafts, listed building was reordered and a new extension was seamlessly added. The space can accommodate a minimum of 60 children in three age groups and as well as nursery accommodation and teaching spaces, it houses an extended services department. The layout was intended to meet strict OFSTED and OUED requirements.
Themed rooms bring colour into play and create stimulating environments. Each room is colour-coded relating to the age group of the children and colours extend beyond rooms, enabling safe and independent movement throughout. Textured flooring creates an interesting visual and sensory experience.
The creativity, innovation and inspiration from the team at Spratley & Partners made the initial concept of a functional workplace nursery within an old Victorian building, come to life. I am delighted that colleagues and their families will benefit from such a wonderful setting.
