10 Old Bailey, London

10 Old Bailey was constructed in 2009 within the St Paul’s Conservation Zone and adjoins the Grade II* listed Central Criminal Court, The Old Bailey. The brief was to update the building to a higher standard offering a space that differs from conventional commercial offices, and typifies the clientele and historical context within this part of the City.

The fourth floor underwent a full CAT A refurbishment stripping the fabric back to its shell and introducing hybrid semi-exposed services seen through a carefully designed, perforated metal, plank ceiling system. The raw concrete lift shaft wall was exposed to create feature internal elevations, whilst the internal glass atrium and mezzanine were enhanced.

Various common parts to the fourth, ground and basement levels where completely renewed with high quality finishes, including amenity spaces, washrooms, changing facilities and bike stores.

The entrance was completely redesigned to make a focal point of the reception desk upon arrival, and to replace a previously baron thoroughfare with an executive lounge. In reference to the building’s facade, limestone was chosen for internal walls, with a grand feature lightbox overhead. A new entrance portico and signage helps give the building presence within the street setting.
